Larbi Zaouli Stadium, Africa —Egypt has officially qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The Pharaohs secured their spot after a convincing 3–0 victory over Djibouti in a Group A match of the African qualifiers on Wednesday night.
Mohamed Salah Shines with a Brace
In a one-sided encounter at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium, Egypt dominated from the outset.
Ibrahim Adel opened the scoring in the 8th minute, giving Egypt an early lead. Star forward and team captain Mohamed Salah doubled the advantage in the 14th minute, and later sealed the win with another goal in the 84th minute, completing his brace.
Djibouti struggled to match Egypt’s intensity throughout the match and failed to create any clear goal-scoring opportunities.
Egypt Tops Group A with One Match Remaining
With this win, Egypt maintains the top position in Group A, having earned 23 points from 9 matches.
They now sit five points ahead of second-placed Sierra Leone, with one match remaining for all teams in the group. This lead confirms Egypt’s place in the upcoming World Cup, regardless of the final round results.

Fourth World Cup Appearance for Egypt
This marks Egypt’s fourth appearance in FIFA World Cup history.
They have previously qualified for the tournaments in 1934, 1990, and most recently in 2018. Now, they will return to the world stage in 2026 as one of Africa’s top representatives.
Third African Nation to Qualify for 2026
With this qualification, Egypt becomes the third African nation to book their ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
They join Morocco and Tunisia, who had already qualified earlier in the campaign.
Overall, Egypt becomes the 19th team worldwide to secure a place in the tournament.
