Kathmandu – The Para Athletics Association Nepal, together with rights-based organizations representing persons with disabilities across the country, organized a candlelight tribute program in honor of the youths who lost their lives during recent demonstrations led by the Zen Z movement. The event was held on Sunday evening at Bhanimandal, Lalitpur, with the aim of paying respect to the martyrs and voicing solidarity against corruption and misgovernance.
Remembering the Fallen of the Zen Z Movement
The peaceful protests spearheaded by the Zen Z group were met with severe crackdowns, resulting in the deaths of more than 37 students. This tragedy shocked the entire nation. Speaking at the program, Para Athletics Association Nepal President Om Nath Shivakoti emphasized that future generations should not have to endure such sacrifices, expressing hope that the new Prime Minister would take constructive steps to address the crisis and honor the sacrifices made.

Participants at the tribute expressed deep condolences to the departed souls and stressed that the peaceful movement was a symbol of democratic rights. They pledged to ensure that the sacrifices of the martyrs would not go in vain.
Candlelight as a Symbol of Solidarity
The Bhanimandal event was attended by representatives of para-sports organizations, Executive Director Vijata Luitel Adhikari, members of the Sundardhoka Sewa Samaj, athletes, well-wishers, and members of the general public. Together, they lit candles as a gesture of remembrance and solidarity. The gathering also highlighted the need to continue the campaign against corruption and to remain united in pursuit of justice.

A Message from the Association
In their joint message, association officials declared: “We will always remember the young martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the fight against widespread corruption and a dysfunctional governance system. Their sacrifice will guide the nation towards a new direction.” They also extended best wishes for the speedy recovery of those injured during the protests.
The candlelight event thus served both as a solemn remembrance of the fallen and a renewed call to action for transparency, accountability, and democratic values in Nepal.
